Fees & Insurance

As of September 1, 2023, my fees are as follows:

Individual therapy (adult, teen, or child) or parent consultation:

  • Initial intake session (50-60 minutes): $250
  • Subsequent therapy sessions (45-50 min.): $165
  • Subsequent therapy sessions (55-60 min.): $185

Evaluations (for ADHD, learning disorders, autism, etc.):

The fee for an evaluation is $250 per hour. This includes the initial intake session, clinical interview time, testing, scoring, communication with collateral contacts, record review, any observation sessions, writing, feedback session, and report.

Most evaluations require between 8 and 16 hours total, depending on the complexity of the referral question and the age of the client. I will be able to provide you with an estimate at our initial meeting. I charge as I go for evaluations, meaning that a portion of the fee will be due at each point of contact (the intake session, the testing session, and the feedback session).

Sometimes an evaluation with a child may require a school observation. Travel time for school observations is not included in the overall evaluation estimate. Travel times are one-way trips, estimated through Google Maps. Travel time of less than 15 minutes carries a $50 charge. 16-30 minutes carries a $100 charge. 31-60 minutes carries a $200 charge.

Other Fees:

Clients can access information about other fees (e.g., legal fees, document fees) in the policies form shared in my client portal.

Insurance

My services are covered by Duke Student Health Insurance (Student Blue). While my services are considered out-of-network for all other insurance companies, many PPOs include out-of-network reimbursement benefits. Because submitting for reimbursement can be a time-consuming process, my office will handle out-of-network reimbursement paperwork as a courtesy for clients. If you provide your insurance information, we will submit claims on your behalf so that you may be reimbursed directly according to your out-of-network benefits.

While we will do our best to communicate with your insurance company in order to facilitate reimbursement, please be aware that your policy determines the amount of reimbursement and the speed at which you are reimbursed.

Clients with out-of-network benefits typically receive reimbursement from their insurance companies within 6-8 weeks of the time of service. If you have a deductible, your reimbursement may be applied toward your deductible. If you do not have a deductible or your deductible has been met, your insurance company is likely to mail you a check.

To determine how much you can expect to be reimbursed by your insurance company, you can call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about reimbursement rates for an initial assessment and therapy with an out-of-network psychologist. If you are asked for CPT codes, the CPT code for an initial assessment is 90791, and the CPT code for a standard therapy session is 90834. My NPI, which may also be requested by your insurance agent, is 1164855011.

Please note that career assessments, career counseling, and certain educational evaluations are generally not covered by insurance policies.
